StG Church Heating

St Gregory the Great Church Heating – June update

The last update mentioned the use of an InfraRed system to replace our Gas Boiler that does not work. We have been trying to find a solution that minimises environmental impact whilst creating a warm and inviting space within the church.

In that update we mentioned that we had selected ConnectInfrared https://connectinfrared.co.uk/church-heating/ and showed a picture of their Onyx unit.

ConnectInfrared technology is designed to meet the above needs, offering sustainable, efficient, and stylish heating solutions. We have visited 2 churches that have these fitted.

Since the update we have been getting an understanding of the capability of our mains supply ie  our 3 phase feed to the church/presbytery and the infrared heating system. This resulted in an upgrade to one of the Phases. Each phase can now deliver 80A maximum. This capacity has resulted in change to use both the Spectrum and Onyx units from the same supplier – brochure link. The design is currently being finalised.

For the technically minded the Onyx units border on longwave infrared that enters into the mediumwave wave length, delivering a soft, radiant heat with no visible light. With surface temperatures around 450 degrees, it provides gentle yet effective warmth, making it ideal for comfort-focused settings where subtle, ambient heating is preferred at a lower mounting height. The Spectrum units operate in the high mediumwave range, right on the cusp of visible light, but is specially designed to emit no visible glare. With a surface temperatures of 900 – 1000 degrees It delivers a more intense, fast-acting heat, meaning fewer units are required due to the broad, comfortable coverage it provides at a higher mounting height. The Spectrum range has a lower power consumption.  It is available in a black casing –  which has only just become available.

Timescales. We would like to make a decision in the next 2 weeks as to how we progress with a view to getting it installed in August/September. As we move into the winter season, typically demands on ConnectInfrared increase and it takes longer as well as the price possibly increasing.

Both units are on display at St Gregorys this weekend to show parishioners the proposed solution. All feedback is welcome. If you have any comments please let the parish office know by Friday 4th July.
