Marriage Preparation Course

All couples wishing to marry in a Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Birmingham have to attend a Marriage Preparation Course. This is because of the very serious commitment you will be making to each other and the importance of it to society as a whole.

At St Gregory’s the Marriage Preparation programme has two options for delivery although the content is the same.

Content

Our Marriage Preparation Course mainly uses the Alpha programme, which is based on Christian Principles and is recognised by the Catholic Church. It covers 5 key areas designed to help engaged couples develop strong foundations for a lasting marriage:

  • The importance of commitment
  • Expressing feelings and learning to listen
  • Keeping love alive
  • Resolving conflict
  • Talking about goals and values

Throughout the course there are plenty of opportunities to talk to your partner during the discussion times. At these times you will cover topics / issues arising from the presentations.

Delivery of the course

The course can be delivered in two ways and  each couple can choose which is their preferred option. The  content will be the same whichever is your choice.

Option 1- Group Delivery
The next Marriage Course will be held on Saturday 26th January 2019 & Saturday 9th February 2019.

The course takes place over two Saturdays in Stratford-upon-Avon starting at about 10.00am and finishing at 5.00pm on the first Saturday and 2.00pm on the second Saturday.

There will be other couples attending the course and there will be a number of people from the Marriage Preparation Team who will be presenting, managing the day and supplying the coffee, tea and lunch.

Option 2- Individual Delivery

The course will be delivered over 4/5 evenings and is best run over four/five weeks with each evening session lasting about two hours.

Timing and dates to be arranged between you and the couple leading the course, which will take place in the married couple's home in or near Stratford.

In the individual environment you would probably have more opportunity to ask questions etc of the leading couple. As the course is given over 4/5 weeks , there is also more time for reflection between the various topics covered.
